GETTING MYSELF OUTSIDE

One of the things I have begun to love the most about blogging is getting out of my house and finding new places to take my photos! Being an introvert/ all-round anxious person sometimes I find comfort in staying inside. It's where I feel safe and don't constantly worry about what people are thinking or making judgements about the way I dress.
Recently, I've been trying to overcome this constant paranoia by just throwing myself into situations and trying to get out a bit more! I'm starting to feel more confident shooting outside and with the occasional person wondering what I'm doing or giving me a slightly funny look because of my goth attire. I'm beginning to embrace being a blogger outside the comfort of my own home and it's opening up so many opportunities because I am surrounded by so many amazing locations!

This little treasure trove is in Jubilee Park, near Nottingham University and I am in love with the scenery! This place was found by my lovely Auntie Jo, who had kindly offered to take and shoot my blog photos! She had suggested this place because she thought it would make a really good background and she wasn't wrong! I love having the support of my family and I kind of feel like this blog has become a family group effort, with pretty much everyone in my family supporting my blog in one way or another!

So it's supposed to be summer, however, typical British weather means that it can be one degrees and feel like ten degrees less! I recently found this velvet and lace slip dress hiding in the back of my wardrobe and have decided to reintroduce it into my wardrobe cycle. I think the reason I stopped wearing it was because it was brought for a night out and without the t-shirt, I kinda didn't fill it out enough and it was too big on top (small boobs problems). However, when paired with a tee I love how it becomes a casual dress I can wear in my everyday style. I decided to pair this with my fishnets for a true grunge look and I feel like this whole outfit is very goth 90s. I still like to pretend it's slightly sunny so I paired this with my hat to complete the outfit. Whenever I wear this hat, I feel very Lydia Deetz, which obviously I absolutely love! I'm really happy with how this outfit turned out and how it looks in contrast with the scenic greenery in the background.

As you can see, I had quite the adventure getting these shots! I had such a fab time walking round and exploring a place I haven't visited since I was a kid- I'd completely forgot I'd even been here before! I am beyond grateful to my auntie for coming with me and shooting these pictures- she's a pretty incredible photographer too!

Oh and here are behind the scene outtakes because you know, I'm a dork!

when the wind catches!

I am so glad I have been pushing myself out of my comfort zone to feel less self-conscious shooting outside! How do you battle feeling self-conscious shooting out and about?

  1. I know how you feel when it comes to shooting outside! It can be hard to get past the people around you. Especially when I shoot in cemeteries!

That velvet slip dress is gorgeous! I'm jealous. I've been looking everywhere for a witchy looking slip dress.

  2. I love that you're getting outside, i really should start doing that too, haha. I really relate to the "being introvert and all-around anxious person". Staying in just often seems so much.... easier. You look very cute and confident in your outfit, though, so congrats for that :)

  3. I can relate to this post so much! I hate being the centre of attention so don't tend to wear or dress the way I want for the fear of stares. You looking gorgeous, go you! Xx

  5. It's a lovely post. So relatable. I don't want everybody looking at me but at the same time I want to be free to wear whatever I want. So conflictual! Nice outfit! xx corinne

  6. Your outfit is stunning as always Robyn! I can really relate to this post as I can feel really self-conscious taking pictures out and about, but I love that Blogging has kinda built my confidence up when it comes to things like taking photos in public. Loved reading this so much!

  7. I did my first blogging photoshoot a couple of weeks ago now and I loved it. I enjoyed getting out of the house and just enjoying myself. I felt self-conscious at first as there were people around me but then I thought tourists always take photos so I just acted like I wasn't in my home town and just embraced it haha. It definitely built my confidence a little and I can't wait to do more. These pictures are lovely x

  14. Getting outside for photos is something I still need to work on, I really want to have the confidence to just take out my tripod and take photos myself because I'd have so much more content!
