BURTON BABES: EDWARD SCISSORHANDS

"No matter what, Edward will always be special"

So this weeks Burton Babes is Edward Scissorhands because to me he is a babe. He's such a precious and innocent character that has so much talent and just wants to be loved, but is treated like a freak because of his differences. Edward Scissorhands has been one of the films I always go back and watch at this time of year and every time I find something new to love about it! As I've gotten older I began to gain an idea of the true meaning behind the film, as oppose to it just being about a goth guy with scissors for hands! For me this film is about how we treat someone who is different to our version of normal. In the film, Edward is treated like an attraction, something new and shiny for the towns people who have become bored with their own lives to look at and in the case of Mrs. Monroe take advantage of. But when this person then does something, as a result of what makes them different, something that isn't always accepted by peoples normal, then they become a scapegoat, someone to use and blame and then banish. I mean think about if Kim hadn't told the townspeople that Edward was already dead - you really think they wold have let him live a normal life?! For me this film represents how we treat those who are different from ourselves.

Okay so I love this costume! When I was first coming up with the idea of Burton Babes and creating a Edward Scissorhands inspired outfit, I didn't quite know how I was going to put this together. In the end, i managed to use items I already had which was a bonus! PVC has been a trend I'm invested in and I've been wanting to show of my PVC trousers so this opportunity was perfect! To create the hands, I searched on Pinterest and found some really helpful tutorials and just cut the shapes out of cardboard, stuck tinfoil on them and then used split pins (so they move!) and pinned them to a pair of black gloves. Now, I'm no makeup artist nor will I ever pretend to be. I'm the kind of person that has two makeup looks, so getting to try and create something new was exciting but also terrifying because I had no idea what I was doing and whether it looked any good! So, hopefully you like this look! I have to say, I'm pretty impressed!

My hair never does as it's told, so I apologise for that! But on the whole I am pretty impressed with how this all turned out. I loved creating this Edward Scissorhands inspired look and after spending an hour dressed like this, I have a newfound respect for Ed - having scissors for hands is really difficult!

Till next time,
