ANTI PROM QUEEN

That time of year is nearly upon us, prom season. One of my biggest regrets was not going to my school prom because I felt different and didn't want to dress in a way that was typically prom. So, thanks to Boohoo I was given a shot at a redo, by creating my anti-prom look and showing you how you can rock all the anti prom vibes this season.

Being different can be hard, being different surrounded by a bunch of people who don't understand or accept you can be a lot harder. I felt so different when I was at school, I didn't feel like I belonged anywhere, I didn't fit with any particular group at school and I just didn't feel like me. I made the decision to not go to my prom because I let my self esteem and lack of self confidence get the better of me. In all honesty, I didn't feel good enough to go to prom - I didn't think I was pretty/popular/ normal enough to go and it's one of my biggest regrets. I couldn't think of anything worse than putting on a formal dress, doing that half up/ half down hairdo everyone seems to have and feeling like I was pretending to be someone I wasn't for the night. I wish I had realised that I didn't have to do any of this. That I could have gone in what I wanted to, rocked my own style and still had a great time. I could have been the anti-prom queen.

Part of the problem was that I felt this insane pressure to wear a "prom dress". You know the ones I mean - floor length, gaudy colours and make you slightly resemble the top of a cake! That's just not me or my style. If I were to redo my prom I would go in a dress that still fits with my personal style - the anti prom dress. I instantly fell in love with this Star Print Midi Dress*, which I obviously paired with my Dr Martens. It's still occasion wear, I still feel fancy as hell but I also still feel like me. Thanks to Boohoo I feel like the anti prom queen and I am living for every minute of it! Prom is supposed to be a time to celebrate, have fun and dance around like a weirdo with your friends. It's a time to enjoy being young and carefree! That for me is what the whole concept of anti prom represents - being free to be yourself, removing all social pressures and just being your individual unique self!

With this disco ball, I feel like a true anti prom queen and I only wish I had the courage and confidence to go to my own prom and be my best anti prom self! Boohoo have got the best range of prom dresses, so check them out here! See how you can style them to reflect who you are because that is what anti prom is all about - rejecting what's expected and staying true to yourself. You rock and it's time to share that with the world this prom season.

Till next time,

  4. Girl you gotta dye your hair blue ASAP!!!
It broke my heart reading this, I felt the prom pressure too but luckily it only affected me enough to stick stupid false eyelashes on and get my hair curled at the hairdressers. I still made my own dress (a short one ofc) and was the palest li'l ghost girl there.
Never ever stop being you, lots of love xxx
