BEING POSITIVE IN A PESSIMISTIC WORLD

I recently won an award at work for being the smiliest member of staff at work and whilst at first I didn't understand why I had won, as I walk around with a permanent resting bitch face (as you can tell from this photo set). Then I began to realise that being a "smiley" person is much more than walking around with a huge grin plastered across your face, it's about making other people want to smile, about being positive in a pessimistic world.

We live in a world that is very much pessimistic - wherever you look people tend to focus on the negative, choosing to see what's going wrong in life and with the world than choosing to see and focus on the positive. I completely get it, it is so much easier to focus on the negative, to identify what is going wrong than what is going right. I am prone to falling into the trap of only thinking of the negative but I've just found that it makes me feel worse! Recently I've been making more of a conscious effort to be more positive and try to be the positive in a world that I've come to realise is highly pessimistic. I don't want to be the kind of person that spends my entire life complaining or getting caught up in all the negative of the world because what kind of life would that be?

I never really understood the importance or value of a genuine smile until I started working with children. Sometimes when it feels like everything is falling apart and that you are trapped in a sea of negativity, a smile can be a life jacket. It's so easy to think about our own problems and feel like we are the only person that has these, but if working with children and adults have taught me anything, it's that every single person has their own battles to face and that sometimes a little positivity can go a long way in helping others not feel so alone. This doesn't have to mean plastering a smile on your face 24/7, despite not being a "smiley" person, I like to think through being a little silly or asking someone about their day, you can show you care and help to put a smile on their face - to help them feel a little more positive. Just think of a world where everyone decided to focus on the positive and helping others to do that to.

Being a lil silly and making jokes is my way of trying to make this a better and happier place. We live in a world filled with so much pessimism and anger and I know I would much rather be the positivity in the world. Start with trying to make just one person smile and you never know where it'll take you!

Till next time,
