I have always had fascination for the 7 deadly sins, learning about them, reading the stories that accompany them and have always wanted to portray each of them for a Blogoween series but just never thought I could make it work! However, I have decided to put my doubt to one side and give it my best shot for the blog this year. Starting with SLOTH.

"Sloth is the desire for ease, even at the expense of doing the known will of God. Whatever we do in life requires effort. Everything we do is to be a means of salvation. The slothful person is unwilling to do what God wants because of the effort it takes to do it. Sloth becomes a sin when it slows down and even brings to a halt the energy we must expend in using the means to salvation."

When we think of this sin, we typically tend to think of the physical laziness that is associated with sloth. The lack of exercise, movement and general slouching about in bed or on the sofa with no motivation to do anything that requires a person to move. For me, sloth is so much more than that! Obviously this is a key element of this sin but I think to see this as the only element makes this sin far more simplistic than it actually, there is so much more to this sin than just laziness. When I imagine sloth and what this encompasses I think of carelessness, an unwillingness to put any effort into act with little or no motivation for life, a half hearted effort and a lack of resilience to carry on with something if it becomes difficult. All of us have a bit of sloth in us whether that be that we sometimes are careless with how we treat others, we avoid doing tasks that we think might be difficult or we adopt a "can't be bothered" attitude towards something and are therefore, unwilling to continue.

With this look I tried to encompass what sloth means to me - a lack of any desire to do or be. Letting yourself rot and morph into nothing through lack of motivation. My sloth has not seen daylight in quite some time, the lack of effort has aged them beyond their years and their eyes have become so tired and strained from their outlook on life that they have clear veins spreading out across their skin like a tortured mask.

I hope you liked the first instalment of this years Blogoween themed looks and are ready for more spooky content than ever before!

Till next time,
